OK I didn't find this in serach so I hope it wasn't asked before.

I setup an account and played the last beta weekend on a guest key.

Needless to say I was impressed.

I went out and bought the pre-order package. Howewer I am unable to enter the pre-order key into my guest account client.

So the question is, do I wait until Apr 27 and at that point I can enter the pre-order key, or do I need to setup a new acoRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO?

Thanks in advance for any guidence here,

Try it again on the 27th, and if it doesn't work you will need to create a new account with the pre-order key.

Angry Unfair labeling, unfair pre-order item variation, unfair disadvantages from error 105

I think that it is frelling rediculous that the pre-order item is based on where you bought the game.

Firstly, I did not know this when I bought the game from the store, AND THE BOX SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT. Not everybody who decided to get the pre-order read all the information on the site. Some of us saw the pre-order in a store, and remember reading good previews of the game in PC gamer or some other mag and decided to get it.

Players should be able to choose their item out of all those available, OR they should be assigned randomly. Anything else is BS.

What's more, I do not even know what mine is since I got it from Sam Goodies which isn't listed. I know it lists an item for unlisted stores, but I don't know if goodies is a subsidiary of one of the stores listed and therefore has a different item.

I think mine is an iconic censor or some such which sounds like it is designed for monks.

I don't intend to be a monk.

So why did I buy this pre-order? Pre-ordering gave two advantages. 1. The unique item. 2. the ability to reserve the name. It turns out my item was set by rules I was unaware of which were NOT printed on the box (and thus gave me no fair warning). Also I can't log on due to the 105 error, which means that I will not be able to create a name until the game actually STARTS, whichs gives me no advantage is reserving a name at all.

I was cheated out of both benefits from the pre-order. And, now I hear, that unless you preordered a special version you can't get the divine aura from the collectors edition.

So what, I bought this game sight unseen for a poster and a cardboard box??

Somebody tell me these NC soft people are going to compensate for this.

You should've done your research man, sorry to hear that though. Actually, you will be able to reserve your name a day earlier than people who pick up the retail version.

I would agree with you if the box said something about it. If the box, say, listed the item you would get, or mentioned the policy.

In the same way that it would be unacceptable to put a warning lable on an electronics manufacturer's website and not on the box of the dangerous product, this is not acceptable. All customers, not just the ones who have thoroughly read the company's web page, should be appraised of the contents and conditions of their package.

I am pleased to find out that I will be able to reserve my name a day early, but the variation in special promotions really irks me. Not because that is the way that NC decided to do it---that would be fine if there were adequate warning, but there is no such warning on the box or in stores. Further, even for those who visit the web page it is not like it is written on the front page. There is a lot of information to look at on the site, and unless one suspected that the special equipment varied by where one bought their box in the first place they would have had no reason to read that link. [Besides, reading the web page is not one of the requirements listed on the box.] The consumer recieves no warning whatsoever, and I hardly think it is fair to blame him or her as having done inadequate research---nobody researches every product they buy. Nobody CAN. The manufacturer has an obligation to disseminate important and unusual information to the consumers of their product. It is easier for one company to give out the information they already know than for a million consumers to privately investigate everyt little detail about every product they buy to see if some important information is tucked away somehwere. The special-weapon issue isn't a minor detail, it is part of the promotion---it is one of the primary reasons why people bought the pre-order in the first place. This information should be mentioned in bold face right on the box.

Suppose I bought a childrens toy for an infant and there was no warning on the toy that said it was dangerous, and a child is hurt and the company's only defense was "Well, we had a link to that information from our website amongst hundreds of other links. There, on that link, after ten pages of other text, it clearly said that the toy should be disposed of in five years otherwise the materials it is made of can become toxic." The risks here are nowhere near as high. GW is just a game, not a child's life. But the principle behind the defense is the same.

OK. I just want to confirm something. I just preordered the retail version from EB Games yesterday and got it today. It came with the jewel case with the retail key and the preorder invitation key. Am I just not able to get to the point where I can enter extra keys because of the no events running error? Is the spot to enter keys onto my account past that point? Thanks. Only a little over 16 more hours to go.

Cool

You can add extra keys now . Just log into your account, and push the edit account button.

Thank you, but where do I go to add the keys? I can't do it in the game because I can't get past where it asks me what kind of character I want to create because of the error saying no events are taking place, and I can't find anything for account management on the Guild Wars site.

There should be an "Edit account" button on the same screen where you create new characters. Unless you get into a different screen when your account has no characters.

Yes, that's what my guess is too. Since I preordered so close to release and have no chars, I am just getting an option of creating Roleplaying or PvP characters, then I get the error about no events running. Oh well, only about 14 more hours. Thanks.

your comparison is entirely flawed.

think of it more like a christmas gift. you're being given a free gift. you know you're getting one, but you don't know what it is. there's always a chance that you won't like it, in which case you can either return the gift (in the case of these weapons, the equivalent would be destroying them in-game), live with the gift and use it for whatever it can be used for, or exchange the gift for something else (in the case of this game, you have the option to swap codes with someone else, or you can go purchase another pre-order box from one of the places that sell them for 1 or 2 dollars). As with a christmas gift, whether you like it or not is not the fault of the giver, and the giver cannoy be held responsible for giving you a gift you do not enjoy.

NCSoft is handing you a free item to go along with the pre-order. many games simply give you the pre-order and expect you to be happy with an assured copy of the game on the release date, but this games gives you a free item you have the ability to use. if you get an item you can't use, then you can merely get rid of it, or forget about it and enjoy the other bonuses you get from preordering. no matter what you do, the company cannot be held responsible, as they DID offer you the ability to find out what weapons come from where. whether or not they made that offer known as well as they could have isn't important (as far as legal matters are concerned). in the end, you had the ability, no matter how small the chances of you KNOWING you had that ability are, to know what store offers what, and from a legal stand point, that's all you needed. they are in no way obligated to compensate you for your uninformed mistake of buying a pre-order you cannot use, and you'd be hard-pressed to get them to even apologize, I'd imagine.

I really cant give you a sufficient answer to all your complaints, but I can tell you that you should not worry about the error. Everyone else was getting it. You should be able now to log into GW and the error should be gone. The only "error" message you should be getting at this time is when you try to connect to the game. It will tell you that you cant due to the fact that the game doenst start till tomorrow. However, if you still get that message after tomorrow, try reloading the client or contacting cutomer support.

Also, the divine aurora was only advertised along with the Collectors Edition.

If you didn't play in any of the Beta Events, you will not have a character name which you can reserve. Edit: If you're trying to log in now to reserve your character name, that's the reason you're getting the server error; like Jaythen said, the servers aren't online for retail customers yet.

And unless all of the preorder boxes were different, it should have said something on the lower right-hand corner of the box about an exclusive in game item. For example, here's what my box from Best Buy says...

"Exclusive in game item for customers of Best Buy. Reserve your copy now!"

Notice how it doesn't simply say "exclusive in game item with preorder." It specifically states that customers of Best Buy who preorder there will get an in game item exclusive to the store. If you misinterpreted what the caption says, then there's nothing anybody can do for you.

here's the deal...
the preorder item is awarded if you have the preorder access code, but
the preorder item is not awarded until release (28th)
the preorder item is really only decent for lower level toons so...
don't play with the toon that can use the pre-order item until release because you'll have probably outgrown the item if you play with that toon during the 24hour advance

pre-order items in most games are a joke...i used my preorder 'journeyman boots' in eq2 for a couple hours until i looted something better.

No, the primary reasons people bought the game were to get access to the Beta Weekend Events, the Early access period and to ensure they could get a copy of the game on release day.
Why would anyone preorder purely on the basis of getting an item in game when they don't even know if the item will be any good anyway?
If the box doesn't mention the item, then how did you find out about it anyway? The only official info I've seen about the preorder items was followed directly by a list of the stores and their items.
